V4B: Rules Adjustment - Buildings

Commanders,

After a hellfire of e-mail exchanges between Churchill and I, I've decided to take his suggestion on how to handle units that choose to Embark on top of a building vs. inside the building. I was going to wait until Mission #2 games were complete, but it just makes too much sense not to do.

5th Ed leaves a lot to be desired on the "building" rules. In addition I've had to make some addendums as they pertain to V4B, and this is one of them. As you have probably figured out by now, its difficult to get a "true" line of site for a 3D game in a 2D environment. In a normal tabletop game, being on higher ground than your opponent can be very advantageous as far as line of sight goes. It can still be a factor in V4B, just not as much.

To compensate for this, the following rule change will go in effect immediately:

* A Unit that choose to Embark on top of a building, can choose (1) Fire Point (FP) to fire from. All models for that unit will fire from that same FP. The player can choose a different FP each new Turn. Normal rules still apply; can only target 1 enemy unit per turn, range will be measured from that FP for all weapons being fired, normal LoS rules apply.

This is consistent with other building rules (pg. 80) in the main rulebook.

The following rules haven't changed, they are being repeated here as a reminder:

* When a Unit is Embarked on top of a building, the building is then considered "Open Topped," which means any unit firing at the building gets a +1 to their Armor Penetration roll.

* Units Embarked on top of a building still can't be targeted in shooting (the exception being Flame Template weapons) or be assaulted. The building must first be destroyed.

Thanks for the suggestion Mike!

~GM
